collaborative lab Conceived as an open space for collaborative creation and experimentaion in art and technology, Marginalia+Lab's laboratory is one of its central actions. The lab is a space open for the participation of those interested in exploring in an inventive and ludicrous way the aesthetica potentials of new and old technologies - be it developing their own projects or collaborating in proposals of other participants. Not willing to narrow the possible proposals around concepts and genres, we enumerated some of the fields of interest of the lab: physical computing, locative media, computer vision, robotics, artificial intelligence, programming, electronics, mechanics, circuit bending, among others. As examples of applications of these areas, we also enumerate a few possibilities: installations, games, imersive environments, musical instruments, performances, objects, urban and architectonic interventions, creative tools, toys, webart, weareable media, prototypes, gambiarras, machins, among others. The lab will incentivate the search for homemade, low cost, free and open source sollutions. In a yearly program of residencies and incubations, the lab promotes intern and open meetings for the discussion of the projects being developed and for the sharing of process, problems and impasses faced, in a methodology of constant collaboration between proponents, collaborators and interested public. To the selected proposals, Marginalia+Lab offers space and physical structure for its development, technical and technological support for the presented proposals, a limited financial support to cover project's expenses, besides meetings with guest artists and researchers for the discussion and orientation. The whole development of the projects will be documented in Marginalia+Lab's online platform, building both a memory of the lab and a knowledge respository about the subject, enabling its later appropriation and use by anyone and consolidating a perspective of continuity and permanence of the initiative. In 2009, ten projects were selected and were developed between September of 2009 and May of 2010. The first activity cycle was closed with an event to present the works. They can be known at the project's online magazine. The lab will open a new call for residents - this time internationally! - by the end of 2010. |
